Your job this week is to be a journalist - a writer for a newspaper that works in the "Fairy Tale" universe. Your job is going to be to think of a made-up news story that happened. All well-written newspaper articles answer the 5-W's:
- Who is involved?
-What happened?
-Where did it happen?
-When did it happen?
-Why did it happen?
I will write an example of what an article may look like below:
Cinderella Opens Shoe Shop! (<-- remember to always include the headline)
The town of Fairyland rejoices as Cinderella plans to open a boutique shoe shop after many requests from the townspeople. Cinderella is known in town as one of the most fashionable girls around, and she is set to share her style with the townspeople. On June 1st, 2020, Cinderella's shop, named "The Glass Slipper" will host its grand opening event. There will be coupons, pumpkin pie, and carriage rides at this fun-filled event. Additionally, if you put in your first online order before midnight tonight, you will get 95% off! Shoes will come in all sizes, even for those large-footed step sisters. When asked how she feels about the grand opening, Cinderella replied, saying "I couldn't be more happy about the upcoming grand opening of "The Glass Slipper"! Charming is fully supportive of my new business venture, and I employed all of my mice friends in the factory, so the shoes will be of top quality!" The grand opening festivities will start at 9:00 am on June 1st.
Notice how all of the details refer back to the original story (the shoe, the pumpkin pie, the step sister, the prince, the mice). That makes the article more entertaining to read!
There are a few ways that you can write this article:
- You can write it out by hand
- You can type it out
- You can download the templates on the powerpoint given below and type on there.
- If you have another creative idea - by all means, try that out!

If you are looking for more writing to do this week, you can continue writing a full issue of your newspaper. If you look in a real newspaper, you will notice so much more than just the articles. There are advertisements, advice columns, obituaries, comics, and games. If you have more ideas of Fairytale stories that you'd like to twist, you can write these. See below for some potential ideas (on the left is what you could write, and on the right is an example of how it could look):
