To introduce the true story of Sadako, it is important to know about some infamous events that took place during the second World War between the United States, and Japan. On December 7th, 1941 the Japanese navy dropped a bomb on Pearl Harbour in Honolulu Hawaii. In retaliation, the United States dropped two atomic bombs on Japan - one on the city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and one on Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. Sadako was a young Japanese girl living in Hiroshima when the atomic bombs hit. Although she survived the attack, unfortunately, she did fall ill of cancer as a result of the nuclear radiation. This book is Sadako's story.
